About the position
As a Staff Data/Backend Engineer on the Data Fabric team, you will be instrumental in building and evolving our customer-facing analytics and reporting platform. You'll architect the data infrastructure that powers embedded reporting dashboards used by thousands of customers globally—ensuring multi-tenant isolation, low-latency queries, and enterprise-grade reliability.
You will work across our data mesh ecosystem, designing event-driven ingestion pipelines, building dimensional data models with dbt, and enabling self-service analytics through modern visualization tools like Luzmo and QuickSight. Your work will directly impact how our customers understand and optimize their sales enablement programs.
What You’ll Do
- Build Customer-Facing Data Infrastructure: Design and implement the backend services that power embedded analytics dashboards, ensuring tenant isolation, query performance, and SLA compliance for customer-facing workloads.
- Architect Data Pipelines: Own the data flow from activity capturing through bronze/silver/gold layers using dbt-athena and dbt-clickhouse, implementing star schemas and dimensional models optimized for analytical queries.
- Develop Serverless Backend Services: Build and maintain TypeScript Lambda functions that handle analytics APIs, reporting endpoints, and event-driven data processing workflows.
- Drive Platform Evolution: Contribute to the transition toward Apache Iceberg table formats and high-performance analytics engines (Clickhouse), ensuring cost-efficiency and query performance at scale.
- Enable Team Autonomy: Create reusable dbt models, data contracts, and documentation that empower product teams to build their own gold-tier analytics models with confidence.
- Ensure Data Quality & Governance: Implement data contracts, schema evolution strategies, and lineage tracking to maintain our data as a trusted source of truth.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with Product, Frontend, and Platform teams to translate business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years developing production backend systems with 3+ years focused on data engineering or analytics infrastructure
- Strong TypeScript/Node.js or Python proficiency with experience building serverless, event-driven systems on AWS (Lambda, SQS, EventBridge)
- Data modeling expertise: Good knowledge of Kimball star-schema and dimensional modeling; you know when to denormalize for performance
- dbt experience: Hands-on experience with dbt for data transformation, testing, and documentation
- SQL mastery: Expert-level SQL skills with experience optimizing queries for analytical workloads (Athena, Clickhouse, or similar)
- Multi-tenant architecture experience: Understanding of tenant isolation patterns, row-level security, and customer-facing data systems
- Infrastructure-as-Code: Experience with CDK, CloudFormation (or Terraform) for defining cloud infrastructure
- DataOps mindset: Strong advocate for CI/CD, automated testing, data quality checks, and observability in data pipelines
- Communication skills: Ability to explain complex data architecture trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Experience with Apache Iceberg or comparable table formats (e.g. Delta Table)
- Clickhouse optimization and query tuning
- Embedded analytics BI platforms (Luzmo, QuickSight, Sisense)
- Lake Formation and fine-grained access control of data lakes
- Event capturing and streaming experience at scale (Kinesis, Kafka)
