The position
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Accounting Manager Revenue to join our finance team based in Madrid, London or Oslo. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in establishing robust order-to-cash processes and managing our revenue accounting operations across multiple entities. This position requires an individual with strong leadership abilities, excellent coordination skills and proactive mindset. The Senior Accounting Manager Revenue will be responsible for managing and reviewing the revenue accounting cycle, including revenue recognition, book-keeping, financial reporting and compliance. The candidate should be able to ensure that revenue transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with relevant accounting standards (IFRS) and company policies.
What you'll be doing
- Revenue recognition and compliance:
- Ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition in accordance with international accounting standards (IFRS).
- Review and analyze customer contracts to ensure proper revenue recognition treatment.
- Provide variance analysis on revenue and deferred revenue accounts.
- Accounts receivable:
- Ensure that invoices are generated and sent to customers in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensure all billing is consistent with customer contracts and pricing agreements.
- Proactively manage the collection of overdue payments and develop strategies for recovering outstanding debts.
- Communicate with customers to follow up on outstanding invoices and payment terms.
- Handle customer inquiries and disputes related to billing, working to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
- Audit and compliance:
- Support external audits related to revenue recognition, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of information provided.
- Ensure compliance with the group corporate governance controls and contribute to the continuous improvement of revenue recognition processes and policies.
- Process improvement and system Implementation:
- Identify opportunities to improve revenue accounting processes and streamline workflows.
- Assist in implementing and optimizing accounting systems and tools (e.g., ERP systems) to enhance reporting capabilities.
- Work closely with IT and finance teams to automate revenue recognition and billing processes.
- Cross-functional collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, legal, FP&A, operations) to assess contract terms for financial implications and ensure proper documentation and interpretation of contracts.
- Provide guidance to accounting team members on complex revenue transactions and accounting issues.
- Tax and VAT compliance:
- Ensure revenue orders are compliant with indirect tax regulation (VAT/GST/Sales tax) in each jurisdiction.
Who you are
As Senior Accounting Manager Revenue you should have a solid foundation in accounting with strong revenue and billing qualifications. Your expertise should cover comprehensive order-to-cash processes including managing revenue recognition and compliance with international accounting standards (IFRS). Additionally, a successful candidate must be excellent in managing compliance with regulatory standards, leading revenue audits, and ensuring adherence to VAT and sales tax requirements. Analytical skills, a detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to adapt to changing environments are key to identifying opportunities for cost control, profitability improvement, and strategic financial planning. The successful Senior Accounting Manager Revenue is proactive in identifying financial challenges and opportunities for improvement, while also being adaptable to handle changes in regulations, systems, or company structures in fast-paced or growing environments.
Qualifications:
- Qualified accountant (ACCA or any other equivalent qualification).
- Strong understanding of IFRS, revenue recognition and corporate governance controls.
- Strong knowledge of VAT and sales tax regulations.
- Advanced Excel skills, including experience with pivot tables, v-lookups, and data analysis.
- Exceptional leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to inspire and develop team members.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in using the NetSuite ERP system is highly preferred.
