What you will be doing:

As a Senior Operations Manager within Gelato Logistics, you will lead strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing our logistics and carrier management capabilities. This role involves managing high-level operations across multiple geographies, particularly focusing on negotiating with carriers, integrating new partners, and overseeing the strategic execution of supply chain logistics to support scalable growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Carrier Management:

  • Optimize Carrier Performance: Continuously assess and enhance carrier operations using automated systems to monitor speed, quality, and cost efficiency. Implement AI-driven tools for proactive management and issue resolution.
  • Network expansion: Identify and integrate innovative shipping partners that align with Gelato’s sustainability and efficiency goals, enhancing the logistic network's capabilities.
  • Promote Technological Innovation: Stay ahead of industry trends by advocating for the adoption of cutting-edge technologies that promise greater efficiency and sustainability, such as IoT for enhanced tracking and blockchain for greater transparency.

Cost and Quality Control:

  • Negotiate and Manage Contracts: Strategically renegotiate carrier contracts to secure competitive rates while upholding stringent quality standards. Employ comprehensive cost management strategies to minimize expenses through smarter route planning and carrier consolidation.
  • Maintain High Service Standards: Establish and enforce rigorous quality controls (e.g. damage rate, lost rate) for all partners to ensure exceptional service delivery. Address and rectify quality issues swiftly to maintain reliability and customer satisfaction.

Commercial and Strategic Expansion:

  • Drive Business Development: Leverage strong commercial acumen to expand Gelato’s logistical footprint. Engage new and existing partners with Gelato’s vision, emphasizing technological integration and market reach expansion.
  • Accelerate existing opportunities and provide oversight for key accounts to ensure continuous growth in the logistics domain

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Lead with Vision: Guide regional logistics operations with a strategic perspective, aligning team efforts with Gelato’s global objectives.
  • Cross-functional stakeholder Engagement: Effectively communicate with all levels of stakeholders to ensure partnership alignment and operational cohesion. Foster relationships that build on trust and mutual strategic goals.

Who you are

You have a start-up mentality and a passion for drilling down to find the root cause of a problem. You are a customer-obsessed problem solver, eager to learn and improve. You are able to articulate complex concepts and are not afraid to challenge the status quo. No task is too small, but you can also see the bigger picture and help lead our operations support to evolve and scale. You lead by example and you love understanding data and identifying process improvements to benefit our partners and customers. In addition, we would like to see the following in your profile:

  • 5+ years of operations and/or strategy work in a high growth start-up or big tech environment
  • Experience in retail, supply chain, logistics, or eCommerce; with a strong and demonstrable interest in driving operations strategy for a large and growing business
  • Track record of success in building new operational processes and an ability to work through ambiguity
  • Ability to “see around corners”, diagnosing and treating issues before they boil over
  • Experience working as part of a high-performing interconnected operations team
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and fix problems in a hands-on manner when needed
  • Proven capabilities in evaluating operational gaps/ weaknesses
  • Experience with marketplace models preferred
  • Strong analytical experience, and comfortable operating with large data sets to generate insight and actionable conclusions
  • Proven track record of leadership, taking ownership and driving results
  • Thrives in a high growth, entrepreneurial, and ambiguous environment
  • MBA or Masters Degree in applicable field is preferred
