As a Legal Counsel on our Legal team Team, you will support the company’s growing business in a generalist role, and provide additional support as we scale. As a team member of an innovative insurance intermediary involved in transactions across the globe, the Legal Counsel will work cross-functionally with the sales, partner services, insurance, marketing, compliance, and product teams to apply their expertise and practical advice.
To drive success in this role, you will have keen legal sense and a proficiency in contracting and negotiations, honed through at least two years in the legal field post-graduation from law school. The best candidates for this role will be a licensed attorney in the State of California. Regular collaboration with sales, insurance and operations teams will be key in ensuring optimal performance is achieved.
This is a hybrid role, which requires in-office attendance Monday, Tuesday and Friday at our California offices in San Francisco. Cover Genius is a global company, and as such this role requires occasional flexibility for international calls outside of traditional business hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of complex commercial agreements, including non disclosure agreements, distribution agreements, agency agreements, and vendor agreements that support and enable our global business operations.
  • Provide advice and counsel to the business on transactional legal matters and proposed corporate actions and projects.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, to identify and resolve legal issuesTriage novel requests and appropriately escalate to other Senior Corporate Counsels or the VP of Legal.
  • Manage company litigation.
  • Support team projects and contribute to other duties as required to meet business needs.

Skills and Experience

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • 2+ years of post JD experience either at a law firm or in-house (or combination thereof).
  • Member of the California bar.

Proficiencies and Attributes

  • A people person with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work in a fast paced workplace/company, complying with short internal SLAs.
  • Able to multitask and prioritize workA demonstrated ability to drive execution in a team environment, integrating legal advice and business knowledge while providing balanced advice regarding risks and benefits.
  • A transactional background (corporate, commercial arrangements) with extensive experience drafting and negotiating preferred.
  • A willingness to expand your practice and explore new areas of the law, including corporate law, privacy law, insurance law and employment law.
