Full Stack Engineer

BondAval

BondAval

Software Engineering
London, UK
Posted on Mar 21, 2024
We look for character over credentials:

  • We’re a Series A fintech transforming B2B credit (website)
  • We’re backed by top European and American VCs including Octopus Ventures, Talis and Expa, as well as angel investors like Tom Blomfield (founder of Monzo) and Carlos Cadenas (Index Ventures, GoCardless, Skyscanner)
  • Founded in 2020, we're already serving blue-chip clients across UK, Europe, US and Canada
  • We’re a fast-growing team of 24, based between London, UK and Austin, US

About the role:

We’re looking for a full stack engineer with great general skills to join our first-class technical team.

You will be involved in technology decision making, architecture, best practices as well as contributing to our code base. As well as core programming skills, we would like each new hire to have a special interest or skills in a relevant area, such as data, security or devops, that will help us raise the bar.

Above all we’re looking for a positive person who is great to work with, has a strong belief in their skills, is objective focused and is able to challenge others in a constructive way. We’re looking for someone who can balance productivity with learning new technologies and improving standards; someone who’s willing to both teach and learn from others.

Success for us means not just creating great products but contributing to open-source libraries and research.

Like most other technology teams, we follow an Agile development methodology; but unlike others we use a flexible variant of scrum across the entire organisation, including executive tasks and decisions.

Our team will span multiple disciplines with much flexibility for individuals to move between core engineering, infrastructure, testing and research.

The core of our stack is Go, VueJS and PostGres. We use Python for scripts and data and manage an immutable infrastructure (on AWS) combining Hashicorp, Ansible and Github actions. We are building out our data architecture and streaming technologies using a variety of open-source platforms. We are flexible about the technologies and skills you have come with and want to hear about them.

You will report into our CTO, Yoel Marson (link) and work closely with our product and data teams. Bondaval is still small enough that youd work with people across different disciplines in the organization.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a very fast-growing, well-funded fintech start-up on the ground floor, growing and developing with the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to frontend and microservice code
  • Becoming part of our product development scrum team
  • Helping to raise the bar in testing and quality
  • Helping to improve architecture and software design
  • Mentoring and diffusing knowledge to the rest of the team.

You might be a good fit if

  • 3+ years software engineering experience
  • High level in a server-side language, such as Go, Python or Java
  • Moderate experience is several technologies across FE and BE
  • Strong Relational Database experience; both in querying and design
  • Good knowledge of source control
  • Architectural skills
  • Some front-end experience, including VueJS, React or Angular
  • Degree in Computer Science or similar optional
  • Strong communication and team working skills

Nice to haves

  • Experience with No-SQL databases; Mongo, Cassandra, Redis
  • Real time streaming; Apache Storm/ Kafka Streams
  • Infrastructure knowledge; ansible, puppet, AWS, Kubernetes
  • A passion for software security.

Logistics:

  • Compensation: £50-70k p.a., depending on experience
  • Employment type: Permanent
  • Employee Share Option Pool: Available - you will earn a stake in the company you are helping to build
  • Location: Hybrid (office on Bermondsey Street, 5 minute walk from London Bridge Station)

  • 30 days’ holiday (incl. bank holidays)
  • Day off for birthday
  • Bike to work scheme
  • Private pension
  • £100/year towards physical challenge of choice
  • Learning and Development support
